Our 3rd grade students went to watch the fire department set the Native Illinois Prairie Grass on fire. There is a large area (you can see the fire men on the right upper part of the photo) planted with the grass and every spring it is burnt off. Before the fire is started, the children run through the grass to scare any small animals out of the area. It rained this morning and they had to start the fire in many areas to get it burn off completely.
